History of Health Communications Institute, Inc.

Health Communications Institute, Inc. was born from the passion and extensive experience of its founder, who, after decades of working in the fields of health and emergency management, recognized the urgent need for education and preparedness in vulnerable communities, as well as the communication and coordination gaps within the health sector.

In 2017, a turning point occurred with a research collaboration with Harvard University, leading to the official establishment of Health Communications Institute, Inc. as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization.

In September 2017, Hurricane Maria struck Puerto Rico, disrupting communications and complicating the first significant project with community leaders. However, through teamwork and determination, the project was completed.

The organization overcame this initial challenge, turning it into an opportunity to strengthen its mission of supporting communities affected by public health emergencies and training community leaders.

Health Communications Institute, Inc. has worked on projects with the Puerto Rico Primary Health Association, Primary Health Centers, and the National Library of Medicine at the National Institutes of Health, solidifying its position in the sector.

Today, Health Communications Institute, Inc. stands as a reference in the field of public health, guided by the principle that health is both a right and a shared responsibility. The organization continues to write its story each day, driven by the vision of improving public health and strengthening community resilience. It faces each new challenge and needs with innovation and commitment.
